Examples:
When
a package delivery service was in need of a large number of employees
for their night shift at a facility in Illinois, they contacted WorkOne
Gary. The problem was finding workers who had reliable transportation
at night. Working with the City of Gary, the Police Dept. and a bus
service, WorkOne was able to interview and screen applicants, coordinate
transportation to and from the work location and provide security
in the parking lot for the new employees while they waited for the
bus.
When
a large, discount retailer opened two new stores in Northwest Indiana,
they had no place to interview a large number of applicants while
the stores were still being built. WorkOne offices recruited, accepted
and screened applications, then arranged for the company's HR staff
to use our facilities even on weekends to interview applicants.
A
major insurance company relocated, leaving there medical insurance
billing staff without jobs. The major barrier to reimployment that
most of their former employees faced was that the computer programs
they had used were not used by any other company. We provided them
with training in Microsoft Windows and Office, making them marketable
once again. A similar problem was faced by computer programmers from
a steel manufacturer. With a specially developed class, their computer
language was updated and they were able to find jobs in their field.
Currently
we are providing assistance to steel workers dislocated by plant closures
at a temporary location at the Hammond Civic Center. Individuals receive
specialized assessment through WorkKeys, Counselling, Workshops and
Job Search Assistance. We even provide sessions on subjects such as
money management for the workers and their spouses.
