Workforce Development Services East Chicago

The East Chicago Center is an Express Center providing work registration, counseling, information resources, assessment, training, GED classes, childcare and job placement through Workforce Development Services, The Indiana Division of Workforce Development, and Veterans' Assistance . They do not handle claims for Unemployment Insurance.They also partner with Job Corps, Community in-School, Lake County Economic Opportunity Council, East Chicago Foundation, Central High School, ALSE Clemente Center, 21st Century Scholars, Catholic Family Charities, Tri-City Mental Health, Fresh Start, East Chicago Housing Authority, North Township Trustee, Urban Enterprise and Healthy East Chicago Women's Institute.

The Information Resource Area offers customer self-service access to information on schools, jobs, careers, labor market, social services, transpotation information, newspapers and internet access for education and job search assistance are available on a walk-in basis during regular business hours.

Work Registration is handled on a walk-in basis.

The Discovery Lab is available without an appointment. Here, you can work on your educational skills, assess your skills, learn to type or use a computer. You can also register for more in-depth classes in the morning or afternoon.

To learn more about Employment and Training Assistance you can attend a 45 minute orientation session held Mondays at 9:00 am. Here, you can learn more about assessment, workshops, counseling and training.
