VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SERVICES

The purpose of Vocational Rehabilitation Services is to assist people with disabilities to obtain essential services which will empower them to achieve equality of opportunity, gainful employment, independent living, economic and social self-sufficiency, and full inclusion in society.

Persons who have a physical or mental impairment which causes a substantial barrier to employment and who require Vocational Rehabilitation Services in order to prepare for, enter, engage in or retain employment consistent with their abilities.

You will work with a counselor to determine a job goal and what service will help you to reach that goal. Together you will develop an Individualized Written Rehabilitation Plan which will outline those goals, services, service providers and time frames for reaching your employment goal.

Services provided may include:

• vocational counseling and guidance
• medical treatment to correct or modify the physical or mental impairment
• training (including vocational school, college or university, on-the-job, and other training
• rehabilitation technology (assistive devices and services)
• placement assistance and follow-up (including supported employment) and other planned goods
  and services determined to be necessary for you to reach your employment goal
• Job Placement into employment that is consistent with the individual's abilities, capacities,
  career interests, and informed choice

You may call, toll free, the office that is closest to your home, to refer yourself for services. Other individuals may also refer you for services with your permission. After your information is received, you will be assigned to a counselor. You will receive a letter or other correspondence from that counselor, inviting you to call them to set up an appointment to exploain our agency's role in more detail.
